There are few better ways to combine a passion for fly fishing with a good cause than by bidding on an unforgettable day on the river. On Wednesday, November 11, 2026, salmon anglers, river owners, conservationists and fishing enthusiasts will once again gather in Oslo for the annual Villaksauksjonen, organised by Reddvillaksen.

The event will take place at Høymagasinet at Akershus Fortress, with doors opening at 4:00 pm and the auction starting at 6:00 pm. The organisers are also putting increased emphasis on the professional and educational side of the event this year, with several engaging and topical presentations planned from around 4:30 pm. The full programme and auction catalogue are expected towards the end of October.
And there is plenty to look forward to. Villaksauksjonen has traditionally offered an impressive selection of fishing experiences, equipment and other items donated by anglers, guides, lodges, companies and organisations. Previous auctions have featured everything from exclusive Norwegian salmon beats and international fishing adventures to rods, reels and other highly desirable items. In 2025, for example, the catalogue included fishing in the Orkla, Alta, Gaula, Stjørdalselva, Lærdalselva and a number of other Norwegian rivers, as well as destinations such as Alaska, Greenland, Iceland, Argentina and the Seychelles.
But the real attraction is not simply the opportunity to secure a spectacular fishing trip. Every bid helps support the wild salmon. Reddvillaksen is a Norwegian non-profit organisation working to secure viable populations of wild Atlantic salmon and sea trout in Norwegian rivers, and the auction is an important part of its fundraising efforts.
For visiting anglers, the evening also offers something that cannot be bought in an auction catalogue: the opportunity to meet people who share a deep concern for the future of wild salmon. With salmon populations facing an increasingly complex combination of challenges, from poor marine survival and habitat degradation to the effects of salmon farming and sea lice, supporting practical conservation work has never been more important.
There will also be a debut screening of a Rick Rosenthal-film, called Superfish Salmon.
