One of the most talented fly tyers out there – and certainly the one consistently putting out the highest quality fly tying videos – is Erin Hyde (of https://shetiesflies.com). This time around, she has made a great tutorial for the Magic Cutthroat Gobius; a more advanced version of the classic, Cutthroat Gobius (Cutthroat Kutling). In the Loop Magazine-writer, Rasmus Ovesen, is responsible for having developed the Cutthroat Gobius patterns, which have become a stable for sea-run brown trout in Scandinavia and beyond. The pattern is also great for stillwater trout.

How do you tie on the fly with that Magic Head?, you say. Well, the Magic Head is flexible and can easily be bent back to reveal the hook eye. For more information about Magic Heads, please visit https://petitjean-cdc.com

Via She Ties Flies: “A magic head gives this pattern incredible erratic swimming motion that predatory fish can’t resist. This tie is built with classic, straightforward techniques – perfect for tiers of any skill level – and gave me the chance to test out the new @FullingMill Pro Twisted Thread and some absolutely beautiful Coq de Leon from a Whiting Farms cape. Whether you’re chasing seatrout, stripers, or any predator that loves a little wiggle in the water, this one belongs in your box”.

She Ties Flies is the creative collaboration of Erin Hyde and Alex Burnett, blending fly tying with digital media. Erin ties, Alex films and edits, and the result is an immersive audiovisual experience for fly fishing and relaxation enthusiasts.

A lifelong fiber artist, Erin’s passion for working with natural materials led her to fly tying—even before fly fishing. She recently picked up her first fly rod, eager for new adventures.

Alex, a video creator for over 13 years, draws inspiration from nature and Tampa Bay’s fishing culture. Together, their work celebrates the beauty of angling.
